Stephanie Wilson

One of Kyra’s primary creative objectives is authoring art that has cultural, ideological and global importance. Stan Herd and The Herd Initiave share this drive.

Stephanie Wilson, the subject and the title of this 2021 Herd Initiative project, was built to bring attention to multiple interrelated causes. Firstly, NASA’s Artemis project, which sent the first woman on a lunar exploration. Secondly, the UN’s International Day of the Girl Child. And finally, World Space Week.

Stephanie Wilson was ideal representative for these causes. Her achievements have blazed a trail for women, girls, and the progressive global space program, achievements so noteworthy, she was hand selected by NASA for her high qualifications to be the first woman to the moon.

Her story and the path shes carved out will continue to provide inspiration and safer passage to our nations most promising demographic: young girls. To highlight this relationship, we asked local schoolschildren to draw what they saw when asked, “Me in space!” on 1x1ft tiles that frame her portait.

Kyra and The Herd Initiative strive to highlight excellent, dynamic women like Astronaut Wilson. It is an enormous priviledge to create the likeness of such a successfull woman. One who achieved her success in world that provides every adversial blockade to people of color.

And to women. Global equity for women has not yet been attained. Not even national equity for women has been attained. For Wilson to break through the glass ceiling of not one difficulty, but two as a woman of color, is an astounding display of her grace, vigilance, and purpose.

Kyra, like all women, has faced difficulties as a woman in a male-dominated world. She aims to take women like Astronaut WIlson as a guide to choosing higher paths.
